Biography

The New York-based soprano, Ermonela Jaho, was born in Albania and received her ?rst singing lessons at the age of six. After her ?rst visit to the opera house in Tirana aged 14, where she heard “La Traviata”, she decided she wanted to become an opera singer. She relocated to Rome at the age of 19 to continue her studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Over the following years she won numerous singing competitions in Italy, thus paving the way for her singing career.

Ermonela Jahos' spirited interpretations and her exceptional identification with the roles she plays are highlighted in all of the reviews she receives. Wherever she performs – be it in London, Paris, New York, Munich, Berlin or Madrid – she is rewarded with standing ovations. The Economist described her as a “fiery angel” and “the world’s most acclaimed soprano”. The Financial Times wrote “she throws heart and soul into her singing. Don’t even try to resist!”, The Independent called her “the best Cio-Cio-San London has seen in years” and the Australian Daily Telegraph described her as “an unstoppable phenomenon”. Ermonela Jaho is in demand across the world and especially noted for her portrayals of Violetta (La Traviata), Madame Butterfly and Suor Angelica (Il trittico), but she also makes her indelible mark on a great many other roles.
