Biography

Ivan Boumans was born in Madrid in 1983 and began his music studies (clarinet and later piano) at a private academy in Cuenca. In 1997, he entered the conservatory there (to study piano and music theory). One year later he moved to Luxembourg, where he studied piano, piano accompaniment, clarinet, chamber music, orchestration, music history, harmony, music pedagogy, methodology, orchestral conducting, analysis, composition, music informatics, organ and counterpoint at the conservatory. In 2005, he continued his studies (harmony andcounterpoint) in Paris at the Conservatoire du 17ème Arrondissement and at the Conservatoire national de région. In 2006, he moved on to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and was awarded prizes in harmony, fugue, counterpoint, 20th century composition, orchestration and conducting. In June 2011, he completed his studies with a master’s degree in composition.

The musical environment in Luxembourg has allowed him to work as a freelance composer since 1999 and as a conductor since 2004. His catalogue of works encompasses over 90 pieces of music of various styles, from chamber music pieces to ?lm music and symphonic works. His music has been performed in many countries, including Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain and the USA.

Ivan Boumans also arranges music and works together with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, the Brass Ensemble Luxemburg, the instrumental ensemble of the University of Luxembourg and the Orchestre national de France. He teaches at the Conservatoire Luxembourg, directs several ensembles and combines this with other compositions and conducting projects.

In 2020, he received the “Composer Award” at the “International Classical Music Awards” (ICMA).
