Biography

Alaz Ikiz was born in Turkey in 2003. He began playing piano at the age of nine. In 2014, he was accepted into the State Conservatory of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSFAU) in Istanbul, where he studies with Dr. Iris Sentürker. Since then, he has performed in solo and chamber music concerts and participated in various projects. He continues his studies as a student in Dr. Iris Sentürker’s class at the MSFAU State Conservatory in Istanbul.

Alaz has attended masterclasses with esteemed pianists such as Prof. Markus Becker, Prof. Fernando Viani, Prof. Fedele Antonicelli, Prof. Alfredo Perl, Dr. Özgür Ünaldi, Prof. Dr. Marta Gulyas, Dr. Emre Elivar, Gülsin Onay, and Pavel Gililov. He is a scholarship holder of the Academy of Music in Liechtenstein and participates in the academy’s intensive weeks and activities.

Ikiz’s competition successes include first prize at the “XI. International Music Competition” in Belgrade, first prize and the audience prize at the “Online Piano Competition for the Youth in Europe,” second prize at the “Vienna Classical International Piano Competition,” first prize at the “International Competition Città di Barletta,” and first prize at the “2nd International Rhapsody Adana Piano Festival and Competition.” In 2023, he received first prize and a CD recording prize at the “Izmir Gülsin Onay Piano Competition,” and his recording of Johann Sebastian Bach's Partita No. 3 was released as a reward for this competition. That same year, he won first prize at the “Mersin Chamber Music Competition.” His most recent competition success was at the “Radovljica International Piano Competition” in Slovenia, where he won second prize and a special award for participating in masterclasses in Slovenia.

In 2023, Alaz performed Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Symphony Orchestra of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.

Alaz participated in the 41st Allegro Vivo Festival and Summer Academy, where he had the opportunity to study with Prof. Peter Nagy. He also took part in the Istanbul Chamber Music Festival, where he worked with Prof. Pavel Gililov.
