Petar Pejcic

Biography

Petar Pejcic was born in Serbia in 2002 into a musical family. He received his first cello lessons at the age of four. After his musical beginnings in Belgrade, he moved to Germany to continue his training at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig with Prof. Peter Bruns. He is currently enrolled in the Professional Studies program of the renowned Kronberg Academy in Prof. Frans Helmerson's class. 

Petar took part in master classes with renowned cellists such as David Geringas, Jens Peter Maintz, Ivan Monighetti, István Várdai and Jan Vogler. He also received important musical inspiration from Mischa Maisky and Wen-Sinn Yang.He is a scholarship holder of the Liechtenstein Music Academy and takes part in the academy's intensive weeks and activities there.

Petar won several prizes in international competitions, including the “Paulo Cello Competition” (Finland), the “Queen Elisabeth Competition” (Belgium), the “Pablo Casals Competition” (Spain), the “Anna Kull Competition” (Austria) and the “Felix Mendelssohn Competition” (Germany). He also received the “Frans Helmerson Prize” at the Kronberg Academy Festival 2022, the “Most Promising Young Musician Prize” from the ArtLink Société Générale and other awards at the “Alexander Glazunov Competition”, the “Liezen Competition”, the “Heran Competition” and the “Serbian State Competition”. 

As a soloist, Petar has performed with orchestras such as the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Graz Philharmonic, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, the BKO Ljubica Maric, the Orchester Royal de Chambre de Wallonie and the Styriarte Festival Orchestra. He played under the direction of prominent conductors such as Stephane Denève, Rumon Gamba, Michael Hofstetter, Vahan Mardirossian, Corinna Niemeyer, Rade Pejcic, Andreas Stoehr, Bojan Sudjic and many others. As a chamber musician, he has performed with well-known artists such as Friedemann Eichhorn, Pauline Sachse, Antti Siirala, Florian Uhlig and Mira Wang. 

His great passion for expanding his musical horizons led to his special collaboration with the choreographer Jacopo Godani and the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company. The resulting works – BACH OFF! and Premonitions of a Larger Plan – present a new perspective on the relationship between musicians and dancers. 

Since 2020, Petar has taken on the role of ambassador for the Pablo Casals Foundation. 

As the winner of the Martin Stadtfeld Prize 2021, he recorded his first CD entitled Intima poetica, which was published by the Friends of Young Musicians Mainz-Wiesbaden e.V. Foundation. 

He is a scholarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin - Live Music Now Foundation, the Friends of Young Musicians Foundation and the Dr. Hübner Foundation. Since 2021, he has received the Günter Henle scholarship from the Peter Klöckner Foundation in the German Foundation for Music Life. 

Petar plays an instrument by Giuseppe Guarneri 'filius Andreae' (1694, Cremona), generously loaned by the Beare's International Violin Society.
