Biography
Sofiko Tchumburidze was born in Turkey in 2000 into a family of musicians. At the age of six, she began studying violin at Mersin University State Conservatory under the tutelage of her mother, Lily Tchumburidze. She continues her basic education at the Munich University of Music and Theater in Germany with the support of ÇEV Sanat. Between 2018-2019, she worked with Prof. Lena Neudauer, has been studying with Prof. Julia Fischer since 2019 and with Prof. Mary Utiger from the Baroque violin department since 2022.
Sofiko took part in masterclasses with Lukas David, Nora Chastain, Cihat Askin, Ozcan Ulucan, Rudens Turku, Volker Jacobsen, Sergey Kravchenko, Dora Schwarzberg, Pierre Amoyal and Dimitri Sitkovetsky. She is a scholarship holder at the Liechtenstein Music Academy and takes part in the intensive weeks and activities that take place there.

She won the 1st prize and the “Young Artist Award” at the “Ana Chumachenco Competition” 2017 in Germany. In 2018, she won the 1st prize in Turkey with her piano trio at the “National Chamber Music Competition”. In 2016, she was chosen by the audience as the Rudens Turku Foundation's “Student of the Year” and also received a special award.
Sofiko has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Presidential Symphony Orchestra, the Innsbruck University Orchestra, the Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra, the Bursa State Symphony Orchestra, the Eskisehir Symphony Orchestra and the Karsiyaka Chamber Orchestra and performed at the Youth Classics Festival, the Semmering International Summer Festival, the Istanbul Young Classicists Festival and the Starnberg Music Days. In 2022, she performed with Julia Fischer in Grünwald and earned the right to play with the Divan Orchestra under the direction of the famous conductor Daniel Barenboim. She gave successful concerts in Cologne, Ljubljana, Salzburg, Berlin and Lucerne.
In addition to her solo performances, she has appeared on stage as a chamber musician at the Istanbul Bosphorus Albert Long Hall Chamber Music Festival, the Chamber Music Days of the Munich University of Music and Theater and the renowned Schloss Elmau Chamber Music Festival. Some of the chamber music performances were recorded by Bayerischer Rundfunk.
Her 2021 projects included a CD recording project for Alpha Classics with the Mozarteum Orchestra conducted by Howard Griffiths.
