Biography
Klara Cheng was born in Switzerland in 2007. She received her first violin lessons at the age of four from the Hungarian violin teacher Maté Visky. In 2018, she was recorded by Philip A. Draganov at the Zurich Music Conservatory. Klara has been in the class of Prof. Xiaoming Wang (Concertmaster Philarmonia Orchestra Zurich) since 2021 and attended the Rämibühl Gymnasium in Zurich. She was accepted by the International Menuhin Music Academy and, at the age of 15, passed the bachelor's entrance examination at the Zurich University of the Arts with the highest score. She received further musical impulses at numerous national and international master classes from Prof. Bartlomiej Niziol, Prof. Alexander Gilman, Thomas Weilbach, Dongwhan Yoon, Jens Lohmann, Prof. Barbara Doll, Prof. Yun Wei, the former assistant of Zakhar Bron Yuka Tsuboi, Sebastian Bohren, Prof. Ning Feng, Prof. Jose G. Flores, by pianist Ulrich Koella and pianist Nargiza Alimova. She is a scholarship holder of the Academy of Music in Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive weeks and activities of the academy.
Klara has won several 1st prizes at the “Zurich Music Competition”, both as a soloist and in chamber music. She always took part as the youngest in her category. She is a prize winner of the “Swiss Youth Music Competition” and the “International Allegra Competition”. At the age of eleven, she was awarded the 2nd prize as a young artist at the “Stradivari International Contest Switzerland”. She won the 1st prize at the “Prix Rotary 2022”.
Klara has given concerts since 2017 on tours throughout Europe (Musikverein Vienna, Tonhalle Zurich, etc.), to China (Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Sichuan Conservatory of Music, etc.) and to South Korea (in the Lotte Concert Hall, Daegu Concert House, etc.).
In addition to being a soloist, Klara was the youngest member of the Winterthur Youth Symphony Orchestra at the age of twelve. Since 2021, she has been playing in the Zurich Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Bruchez-Lalli and in the Stringendo ensemble under the direction of Jens Lohmann.
She has taken part in various chamber music festivals (Herbst in der Helferei, Musikfestival Leimbach, etc.) and regularly plays chamber music in various formations from duo to quartet.
Klara played, among other things, a violin by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume and, since spring 2022, a Francesco Ruggeri from the Maggini Foundation.
