Biography

Maria Inês Pereira Castro is a Portuguese flautist and piccoloist. Born in 1999, she began her music studies at the age of ten at the Academia de Música José Atalaya, Fafe, Portugal, where she graduated with honors. With seventeen, she moved to Switzerland to start her Bachelor studies at the Zurich University of the Arts with Matthias Ziegler (flute), Haika Lübcke (piccolo) and Sabine Poyé Morel (orchestral excerpts). She concluded it with distinction in 2020. In June 2022, Inês Castro concluded her master’s degree in music pedagogy with Sabine Poyé Morel (flute), Pamela Stahel (piccolo) and Claire Genewein (didactics) also with distinction.

Inês deepened her knowledge in masterclasses with Andrea Lieberknecht, Aldo Baerten, Bartold Kuijken, Berten D'Hollander, Christina Fassbender, Gil Magalhães, José Daniel Castellon, Katharine Rawdon, Luís Meireles, Marcos Fregnani, Nuno Inácio, Philippe Bernold, Rachel Brown, Raquel Lima, Rute Fernandes, Sarah Rumer, Sophia Mavrogenidou, Stephanie Wagner, Peter Lukas Graf, Vasco Gouveia, Vicent Lucas and piccolo masterclasses with Patricia Morris, Natalie Schwaabe, Jerica Pavli and Nicola Mazzanti. She also receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein and participates in the intensive music weeks and activities held there.

In 2019, Inês performed as a soloist with the Höri Musiktage Bodensee and in 2020, she developed her own project for flutes and electronics called “DialogNoDialog”.

The orchestral field is an important part of her life. She is a regular guest and substitute musician at the Orchestre de La Suisse Romande, Musikkollegium Winterthur and Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden, among others.
