Biography

Kanon Huang was born in Austria in 2013 into a Taiwanese-Japanese family of musicians. At the age of two, she took part in early musical education at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. She received her first cello lessons from her father, Hsin-Kang Huang, at the age of three. At the age of five, she played her first performance at Prof. Andreas Pözlberger's class evening as a guest student at the Anton Bruckner Private University. At the age of six, she decided to become a soloist. 

Kanon took part in master classes with Steven Isserlis, Tamás Varga, Prof. Maria Kliegel, Prof. Johannes Moser, Prof. Claudio Bohórquez, Prof. Matthias Bartolomey, Prof. Maria Grün, Prof. Reinhard Latzko and Ádám Jávorkai. She receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein and participates regularly in the intensive music weeks and activities offered by the Academy.

Kanon has already won numerous national and international awards. In 2020, she won 1st prizes at the "14th Jan Vychytil International Cello Competition Prague" and at the Austrian state competition "prima la musica" with distinction, where she played the final concert in the Great Hall of the Brucknerhaus. She won the 1st prize at the "Hong Kong Music Performing Arts Competition" and in summer 2020, she earned the scholarship for the master class Allegro Vivo in Horn. In 2021. she won the 1st prize at the "3rd Gustav Mahler Cello Prize Competition", the absolute 1st prize at the "Danubia Talents Music Competition" and the "Golden Note" from the IMF in Austria as the youngest participant in the history of the competition. In 2022, at the age of eight, she won the 3rd prize at the "International Antonio Janigro Cello Competition" in the category for 15-year-old participants in Sibenik, Croatia, as well as the 2nd prize as the youngest prizewinner at the "International Dotzauer Cello Competition". 

Kanon took part in the program Stars & Talents and was invited as an artist to the gala concert of "Licht ins Dunkel". 

She plays a cello that was made available to her by the violin maker Stephan Schürch.
