Biography

Hyelee Kang was born in South Korea in 1995 and graduated on the piano with excellent grades from Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School, while also completing the preparatory school of the Korea National University of Arts and the gifted education center of the Korea National University of Arts. She later entered the Seoul National University, receiving a scholarship for best performance and graduated with top honors. She studied under Yoon Yoojin, Kim Dae-jin, Moon Jung-won, Auh Soo-hee and Joo Hee-sung in Korea. Currently, she’s studying with Pavel Gililov at Mozarteum Salzburg.

Hyelee expanded her musical knowledge by receiving master classes from renowned professors such as Ronan O’hara, Emanuel Krasovsky, Alexander Korsantia, Bernd Goetzke, Eldar nebolsin, Boris Slutsky, Sergei Babayan, Michel Béroff, Robert Levin, Giuliano Mazzoccante, Andreas Groethuysen, Jang Hyung-joon, Moon Ick-Choo, Paik Haesun, Park Jong-hwa, Shin Soo-jung and many others. She is also a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein, where she regularly takes part in the intensive weeks and activities of the academy.

Hyelee consistently distinguished herself by winning awards at Korea’s leading competitions, including the 1st prize at the “Korea Chopin Competition”, the 1st prize at the “Chung-Ang University Competition”, the 1st prize at the “Eumyeon Festival Competition”, the 2nd prize at the “Samik Competition”, the 2nd prize at the “Ewha-Kyunghyang Concours”, the 2nd prize at the “Eumak Chunchu Competition”, the 2nd prize at the “TBC Competition” and the 1st prize at the “2019 Piano Live Battle” co-hosted by the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts and the Young Artist Forum & Festival. She has also made her competition debut overseas by performing at the “Asia Pacific International Chopin Piano Competition” and winning the “Polonaise Prize”. She won the 2nd prize at the “Vienna International Competition” and both the 1st prize and the Special Prize at the “Grand Virtuoso Piano Competition”. Furthermore, she won the Grand Prize at the “Korea Liszt Competition”, holding a solo concert at the Yamaha Hall in Korea and at the Liszt Museum Concert Hall in Budapest at the invitation of the Hungarian embassy. She was also selected for the Youngsan Debut Concert Series in 2015 and for Kumho Young Artist in 2017.

Hyelee made her debut in 2008 through the Kumho Prodigy Concert and made herself known through E-Won Dream Tree Concert, Kumho Prodigy Trio VOM and Young Musicians Festival. In 2012, she performed with the Eurasian Philharmonic Orchestra with conductor Geum Nan-sae.

In addition, she participated in various domestic and international music festivals, including the Busan International Music Festival, the Eumyeon Summer Festival, the International Piano Academy held by the Seoul National University, the Amalfi Coast Festival, the Summer School Bad Reichenhall and the Internationale Sommerakademie Universität Mozarteum Salzburg. She was chosen to perform with Bad Reichenhall Orchestra. As a member of the PoAH Piano Research Society, she is working hard to communicate with the audience through many performances.
