Friederike Herold

Biography

Friederike Herold was born in Germany in 2005. She received her first cello lessons at the age of four. At the age of six, she was admitted to the children's class at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden. Since 2016, she has been attending the Saxon State High School for Music Dresden and is taught by Prof. Emil Rovner (Dresden University of Music). In addition, she receives regular lessons from Prof. Ivan Monighetti in Basel.

Friederike received essential musical impulses from master classes with Ivan Monighetti, Marie-Elisabeth Hecker, Tanja Tetzlaff and Norbert Anger, among others. From 2016-2018 she took part in the "Meisterstudent-Meister" course in Neuhardenberg with cellist Jan Vogler. She is also a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive weeks there.

Friederike can already look back on a number of competition successes. She won the “5th  International Justus Johann Friedrich Dotzauer Competition” in Dresden in 2013 as youngest participant, the 2nd prize and two special prizes. She won the 1st prizes at the "International Cello Competition" in Liezen, Austria, at the "International Antonio Janigro Cello Competition" in Porec, Croatia (2014), at the "International Heran Competition" in Usti nad Orlici, Czech Republic, and at the "International Popper Competition" in Várpalota, Hungary (2015). In 2016 and 2019, she received 1st prizes with the highest number of points in the regional and state competition "Jugend musiziert" in the solo category and the special prize of the Saxon Music Council. In 2017, together with her sister Charlotte (violin), she was able to win a 1st federal prize with maximum points in the string ensemble category. As a result, they were awarded a special prize by the German Foundation Musikleben and the “Central German Youth Music Prize for Chamber Music” in 2017. At the "International Dotzau Competition for Young Cellists" in 2019, she won 2nd prize and the special prize for the best interpretation of the compulsory piece. In the same year, she received a 1st prize with the highest number of points and the special prize of the Rutesheim Cello Academy at the national competition "Jugend musiziert".

In 2015, Friederike played as a soloist with the Dresden Young Symphony Orchestra in the Dresden Kreuzkirche. In October of the same year, she performed Matthias Georg Monn's cello concerto with the Zagreber Solisten in Porec, Croatia. In 2018, she performed as a soloist with the "YES" Chamber Orchestra in Basel and with the Junges Kammerorchester Dresden. In 2021, she made her debut at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival and in 2022 at the Dresden Music Festival.

As a scholarship holder of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and winner of the competition of the German Musical Instrument Fund, Friederike has been playing a cello by J.A. Rocca /Turin 1839 since 2020.
