Biography

Levon Avagyan was born in Yerevan (Armenia) in 1990 and studied at the State Conservatory under Professor Vagharshak Harutyunyan. Since 2010 he has been studying at the University for Music and Performing Arts Graz with Professor Milana Chernyavska.

In 2017, Levon Avagyan won the 1st prize, the audience prize and further special prizes at the renowned Maria Canals International Music Competition in Barcelona. This success is preceded by a remarkable musical career. Levon Avagyan has won prizes at over ten international competitions. His prizes include the 1st prize at the “Forum per tasti” International Piano Competition in Slovakia (2015), the 1st prize at the “Roberta Gallinari” International Piano Competition in Italy (2015), the 2nd prize at the Santa Cecilia International Piano Competition in Portugal (2016) and the 2nd prize at the Isidor Bajic International Piano Competition in Serbia (2016).

Current and previous highlights of his career as a soloist are performances with the symphony orchestras of Madrid, Barcelona, Granada, Bilbao and Tenerife, with the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra, the Porto Symphony Orchestra, the Belgrade Symphony Orchestra, the Slovak Sinfonietta, the Imola Chamber Orchestra and the Young Chamber Orchestra of Stuttgart. In 2018 and 2019, Levon Avagyan will record two CDs which will appear under the Naxos label.

Levon Avagyan is a regular guest at various renowned festivals, such as the Kissinger Sommer and the “Junge Künstler – Stars von morgen” festivals in Germany, the International Piano Festival in Marbella in Spain, the FESTIVAL NEXT GENERATION Bad Ragaz, the Elisarion Piano Festival and the Menuhin Festival Gstaad in Switzerland, the Festival Vaduz Classic in Liechtenstein and at the Arsonore International Music Festival and the :alpenarte festival in Austria.

The young pianist receives a scholarship from the Yamaha Music Foundation in Europe. He was also a member of the Kammerton cultural project in Berlin and receives a scholarship from the Spivakov Foundation in Russia and the Fondation Clavarte in Switzerland. Since 2011, Levon Avagyan has enjoyed the privilege of receiving a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein. He regularly participates in the intensive music weeks held there and has the opportunity to perform in the academy’s concerts.

He has also participated in numerous masterclasses, for example with Arie Vardi, Dmitri Bashkirov, Pavel Gililov, Hung-Kuan Chen, Paul Badura-Skoda, Klaus Hellwig und Boris Beresovsky.
