Biography

Born in Russia in 1982, Alexey Zuev gave his first public performance in the state cappella at the age of eight after beginning piano studies at the School of Music and later at the Special Music Conservatory School in St. Petersburg. In 2009, he graduated from the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where he was a student of Alexey Lubimov. 

Alexey received numerous prestigious international awards. He was overall winner of the “St. Petersburg International Prokofiev Competition” in 1999, received the Educational Award at the “London International Piano Competition” in 2002, was a prizewinner at the “International Sviatoslav Richter Competition” in Moscow in 2008 and 2nd prizewinner at the renowned “Geza Anda Piano Competition” in Zurich in 2009.

Recent concert highlights include a debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra, a performance of Scriabin's Mystery with the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, a concert debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, a performance with the Orchestra of the 18th Century and an acclaimed performance with the Musikkollegium Winterthur. Alexey was also a member of Georg Solti's World Orchestra for Peace in St. Petersburg and Moscow, performed with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Svetlanov Orchestra Moscow. His recital highlights include performances at the Moscow International House of Music and solo recitals at the Engelgardt Hall in St. Petersburg and the Concertgebouw in Bruges. 

Alexey took part in various international festivals, including the Chopin Festival in Warsaw and the International Ravinia Festival Chicago, the Kreuth Festival, the St. Gallen Festival, the Kissinger Piano Olympiad, the Festival Van Vlaanderen, the Oleg Kagan Musikfest Kreuth, the Summer and Winter Magic Festivals in Bad Kissingen, the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival and the "Alpine Classics" in Bad Reichenhall. 

Alexey's repertoire includes works from the romantic era, from impressionists to contemporary alternative postmodernists and minimalists. He is also a passionate historically oriented fortepiano player. 

In 2017, the Warsaw Chopin Institute released his recording of Grieg's piano works and Grieg's Piano Concerto, accompanied by the famous 18th-century Amsterdam orchestra on a period piano. In addition, Alexey recorded CDs for the Moscow Conservatory, the Munich company ECM, Art Classics Moscow and Steingraeber & Söhne (Broken silence). 

Alexey currently holds a teaching position at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.
