Biography
Mar Gimferrer was born in Spain in 2002. She started playing the cello in Girona at the age of seven. At the age of eleven, she entered the conservatory of the same city to study with Josep Bassal. At the age of 15, she was accepted into Oriol Martorell, a school in Barcelona that combines both musical and classical studies. She studied there with Joan Antoni Pich and finished her studies with an honorary award. Since September 2019, she has been studying with Beatriz Blanco at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory in Feldkirch.
Mar attended master classes with cellists such as Jens Peter Maintz, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Thomas Grossenbacher, Kian Soltani, Conradin Brotbek, Fernando Arias and María Casado. She also receives a scholarship from the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive music weeks and activities that take place there.

In addition, she has received several awards at local competitions. 2019, she won the 1st prize in the "BBVA Talent Competition" in Spain. She recently received an award in her conservatory at the soloist competition and performed live on ORF (Radio Vorarlberg).
At the age of 15, Mar got the chance to play as a soloist with the conservatory orchestra. In 2019, she played at the Palau de la Música de Catalunya with the Orfeó Català. In addition to playing in an orchestra, she is also very interested in chamber music. She had the opportunity to work with Guillaume Sutre, first violin of the Ysaÿe Quartet, as well as with the Gerhard Quartet. She also took part in important academies and festivals such as the Saline Royale Academy, the Schloss Academy and the International Mendelssohn Festival.
