Biography

The young pianist Hyena Cho was born in South Korea and attended the Sunhwa Music High School there. In 2016, she moved to Vienna to deepen her piano studies and studied with Thomas Kreuzberger at the MUK (Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna) for her bachelor's degree. In 2022, she began her master's degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Prof. Christoph Traxler.

Numerous master classes, among others with Ingolf Wunder, Denys Proshayev, Krassimira Jordan and Helene Berger complete her training. She was invited to a concert play by the music education newspaper Young Artist and also completed the “Gyeonggi-do” course there. She is also a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive weeks held there.

Hyena Cho has already won several first prizes in prestigious competitions such as the “Ceramic Palace Hall Concours”, the “Chosun Music Education News Competition“, the “Washington Universal Piano Competition” and the “Gimpo Philharmonic Music Competition”. She was awarded a second prize at the “Haneum Philharmonic Music Competition” and the “Roma International Competition”. In 2019 she was awarded first prize (Prix D’Honneur) at the renowned “International Music Competition Leopold Bellan” in France.

In 2021 Hyena performed at the Bösendorfer online concert in the Bösendorfer Salon Vienna. As a prizewinner of the "International Concert Competition" she performed together with the Brescia Orchestra in 2022. Furthermore, she performed at the Bösendorfer Online Concert in the Bösendorfer Salon in Vienna in 2021.

In 2018 she received a grant from the Enami Foundation for her contribution Virtuoso (together with pianist Jiwon Kim) to the MUK “Fidelio Competition”. As part of the presentation of the award winners, she also appeared in the Radiokulturhaus. In 2020 she received the first prize in the “Dichler Competition” as a Lions Club scholarship holder at the Vienna Music Seminar.
