Biography

Dorotea Senica was born in Germany in 1997. She started playing the flute at the age of eight at the Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet with Professor Valerija Kamplet, where she also graduated. At the age of 15, she passed the entrance exam for a full-time course in concert flute at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. She completed her master's degree in 2021 with excellence. In 2020, she studied for half a year at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in the class of Univ. Prof. Philippe Bernold as part of the Erasmus+ program.

Dorotea completed master classes with Matej Zupan, Milena Lipovšek and Liza Hawlina Prešicek, Karolina Šantl Zupan, Michael Martin Kofler, Martin Belic, Erwin Klambauer, Philippe Bernold, Carlo Jans, Jean-Claude Gérard, Gareth McLearnon, Olga Ivusheikova and in seminars with James Galway, Karl-Heinz Schütz, Andrea Lieberknecht, Julien Beaudiment, Juliette Hurel, Paolo Taballione, Bülent Evcil, Janos Balint, Giorgio Blasco, Aleš Kacjan, Mateja Bajt, Adriana Ferreira, Sébastian Jacot and Loïc Schneider. She also receives a scholarship from the Liechtenstein International Music Academy and regularly takes part in the intensive music weeks and activities of the academy. 

Dorotea has been taking part in music competitions since she was ten years old. Among other things, she won the 1st prize and a gold medal with additional prizes at the “45. National competition TEMSIG" (2016). She won the 1st prize at the “International EMCY Competition Petar Konjovic” in Belgrade (2010), at the “International Competition Citta di Padova” (2011) and at the “International Competition Woodwind & Brass Varaždin” (2015). In 2016, she performed in the final of the Slovenian Eurovision Young Musician with the RTV Slovenia Orchestra. In 2018, she was a finalist and winner of the "Darmstadt Special Award" at the "Severino Gazzelloni International Competition" in Pescara (Italy) and a semi-finalist at the "Guanzghou International Flute Competition" in China. In 2017, she qualified for the International Kobe Flute Competition in Japan. She won the 1st prize in the Master category at the “Dutch International Flute Competition” 2019. 

As a soloist with orchestra, Dorotea has performed with the RTV Symphony Orchestra, the Slovenian Philharmonic, the Chamber Orchestra of the Slovenian Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra of the Slovenian National Theater Maribor, the String Orchestra of the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Maribor, the Hungarian State Orchestra and the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig. She held several recitals in different places in Slovenia. RTV Slovenia presented her in the program "Young Virtuosos" on national television TV 2 (2015), and she performed at the 25th RTV Slovenije benefit concert "Miklavžev". In 2018 she gained further orchestral experience with the Munich Philharmonic under the direction of conductor Kent Nagano. 

Dorotea received the Zois scholarship from the end of elementary school until 2018, and she has been sponsored by the Gallus Institution since 2014. For the year 2016/17, she was selected as "Mladi up" from Zavarovalnica Triglav due to the performances selected by the commission. Dorotea was awarded a scholarship from the Slovenian Ministry of Culture for her master's degree.
