Biography

Alice Lee was born in 2000 in Canada. She began playing the violin at the age of five in Victoria, B.C. She currently studies with Maxim Vengerov and Lavard Skou-Larsen at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. 

Her former teachers include Barry Shiffman, Victor Danchenko, Ann Setzer, Kathryn Ranger, Michael van der Sloot and Oleg Kaskiv. She is also a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive weeks and activities there.

Alice is the 2nd prizewinner at the “International Fritz Kreisler Competition” 2018 in Vienna, Austria, and won the 1stprize of the “Shean Strings Competition” 2017 and the “OSM Manulife Competition 2016.

Alice debuted as a soloist when she was eleven years old with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra under Tania Miller in the Victoria Symphony Splash 2011. She has performed with the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester under Johannes Wildner in the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Slovak Radio Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra, the Niagara Symphony Orchestra and the Academy Chamber Orchestra in the Koerner Hall, Toronto. 

Alice has attended the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Rencontres Musicales Internationales Switzerland, the Banff String Quartet Festival 2017, the Banff Masterclass program, Morningside Music Bridge and the Indiana summer academy. Additionally, she has played for artists including James Ehnes, Midori, Cho Liang Lin, Joel Smirnoff, Mihaela Martin, Donald Weilerstein, Paul Kantor, Ning Feng, Jonathan Crow, Tadeusz Gadzina and Ivan Zenaty.

She has made several radio recordings and broadcasted live performances with Canada CBC 2 In Concert and was named in CBC’s 30 hot musicians under 30 in 2017.
